Popular supermarket chain with more than 95 stores along the East Coast to anchor development, with planned opening by mid-2021.

BALTIMORE, MD (April 23, 2020) – Lidl US, recently ranked a top three U.S supermarket by Food & Wine Magazine, has selected Padonia Village Shopping Center in the Timonium section of Baltimore County as the site of its third location in Baltimore County. The grocery store has signed a lease for approximately 31,000 square feet of space with Continental Realty Corporation to backfill the former Green Valley Marketplace that exited the center earlier this year. The new supermarket is expected to be operational by mid-2021.

“Since entering the United States market, Lidl has built an extremely strong and recognized brand focused on private label goods with value pricing, and we are extremely confident that this significant differentiation point will resonate throughout the Baltimore County landscape,” stated David Donato, Senior Vice President of Continental Realty Corporation. “Considering the competitiveness of the grocery category along the York Road corridor, we believe Lidl represents the ideal solution as the new Padonia Village supermarket anchor and will attract new consumers from an expanded radius. The company has demonstrated its commitment to the Timonium community and Padonia Village Shopping Center with its recent investment in the center and we are thrilled to welcome Lidl to our wide-ranging tenant mix.”

Lidl operates more than 11,000 stores and is active in 32 countries, employing around 287,000 employees globally. Lidl offers customers the highest quality fresh produce, meat, bakery items and a wide array of household products at the lowest possible prices. Lidl first established its U.S. headquarters in Arlington County, Virginia in June 2015, and today sells its award-winning products in more than 95 stores across nine east coast states.

Lidl recently opened a 754,000 square foot distribution and logistics nearby in Cecil County. The opening date of the warehouse was accelerated from mid-summer in response to consumer demand during the COVID-19 crisis.

Positioned at 61 E. Padonia Road near York Road, Padonia Village is a 113,519 square foot retail shopping center that includes CuVino restaurant, Taco Bravo, Uber Bagels, Cake by Jason and  GBMC which will open later this year. Just off Padonia Road and an exit off Interstate 83, nearly 42,000 vehicles pass the site on a daily basis. Approximately 60,000 people, in 25,000 households, reside within a three-mile radius of the site, with an average household income exceeding $100,000.

Last year Continental Realty Corporation completed a center-wide exterior renovation of Padonia Village featuring the installation of new lighting, and the creation of a reimagined courtyard pocket park named “the Green.” This area functions as the aesthetic focal point of the center and provides an intimate gathering area for events, promotions and concerts. It will also be the primary pedestrian zone with active and dynamic retail and entertainment uses.

Continental Realty Corporation (CRC) is focused on acquiring value-add retail and multifamily properties located throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions of the United States. Headquartered in Baltimore and founded in 1960, CRC is a full-service commercial real estate and investment company. The privately-owned firm owns and manages a diversified portfolio of retail centers consisting of more than 5 million square feet of commercial space, as well as almost 10,000 apartment homes. Positioned throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions, the portfolio’s value exceeds $2 billion.
