Lidl Opening December 9th at Padonia Village Shopping Center
National supermarket chain occupying former Green Valley Marketplace space
BALTIMORE, MD (December 4, 2020) – Lidl US will officially open its newest Baltimore County location on Wednesday, December 9th within 31,000 square feet of space at Padonia Village Shopping Center, a nearly 115,000 square foot neighborhood retail shopping center located at 61 E. Padonia Road in the Timonium section of Baltimore County. The national chain, which is ranked a top three U.S supermarket by Food & Wine Magazine, signed a lease with Continental Realty Corporation for 31,000 square feet of space earlier this year to backfill the former Green Valley Marketplace use.
Doors will open to the public at 8 am and the first 100 customers to enter the store will receive gift cards worth between $5 and $100. This represents the third Baltimore County location for Lidl, and sixth in the greater Baltimore metropolitan region.
Lidl operates more than 11,200 stores, and is active in 32 countries, employing more than 315,000 workers globally. Lidl offers customers the highest quality fresh produce, meat, bakery items and a wide array of household products at the lowest possible prices. Lidl first established its U.S. headquarters in Arlington County, Virginia in June 2015, and today sells its award-winning products in more than 120 stores across nine states on the East Coast.
“Grocery stores traditionally function as the primary traffic driver for neighborhood shopping centers and, in Lidl, Padonia Village is now anchored by a concept that provides noteworthy differentiation in the northern Baltimore County region,” stated David Donato, Senior Vice President of Continental Realty Corporation. “Lidl has revolutionized the grocery shopping experience with a less complicated process that offers value pricing focused on private label goods. We are extremely confident in their ability to rapidly build market share in the grocery store category and attract many new customers to Padonia Village.”
Lidl operates a 754,000 square foot distribution and logistics center in Cecil County that supplies stores throughout Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York.
Additional tenants in Padonia Village Shopping Center include CuVino restaurant, Taco Bravo, Uber Bagels, Cake by Jason and GBMC. Padonia Village is at the intersection of York Road and Padonia Road, a half mile from Interstate 83. Nearly 42,000 vehicles pass the site on a daily basis. Approximately 60,000 people, in 25,000 households, reside within a three-mile radius of the site, with an average household income exceeding $100,000.
Last year Continental Realty Corporation completed a center-wide exterior renovation of Padonia Village featuring enhanced lighting, and the creation of a courtyard park named “the Green.” Mullan Contracting Company, the general contractor for the center’s renovation, won a Merit Award from the Baltimore Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) for the project.
