Branching Out

Although Continental Realty Corporation is best-known for its successful ownership and management of apartment communities and shopping centers, it also has a thriving restaurant division, CR Restaurant, Inc.  This company, founded in 1990, is an established local franchisee of the international fast food chain Burger King and has recently become a Cosi franchisee as well.  In other words, CR Restaurant independently operates the restaurants but is authorized to use the Burger King and Cosi names, designs, and products.

CR Restaurant has experienced incredible growth since its inception, highlighted by the recent acquisition of 11 Pennsylvania Burger King locations. The company, which began with just a single Burger King franchise, now operates 17 Burger Kings in Maryland, 11 in Pennsylvania, and a single Cosi in Columbia.  The company employs approximately 1,300 people. CR Restaurant expects to continue its growth, and has put development agreements in place with Burger King and Cosi for both Maryland and Pennsylvania.

There are over 11,400 restaurants operating under the Burger King system.  The group has stores in nearly 70 countries and all 50 states.  Approximately 90 percent of BURGER KING® restaurants are owned and operated by independent franchisees.  Many of these franchisees have been in business for decades.
